First Day of Classes

Six weeks sounds so long when you say it but it definitely didn't feel long..

First day of a new semester. Am I excited to be back in school? Hell no! (did you expect anything different?) So my day started by getting up at 3:45 in the morning and got to school at 4:30. What am I doing doing at school at 4:30 in the morning you ask? FTP. (or Field Training Prep) That was exciting though..it was fun. Part of it being that I was on the other side of the fence now..doing the training instead of being trained..and part of it was seeing these cadets that are preparing to go to Field Training this summer, where they are now, and the potential they have to get to Field Training and smoke it. Also the staff works so hard to plan the curriculum and to see it executed and the cadets actually benefiting from it is kinda cool. It's always fun for me to work with the younger cadets, mentor them, teach them. Sometimes it's more fun than other times, and some cadets are more fun to work with than others, but nonetheless exciting. Plus I remember what it was like to be in their shoes. And teaching them helps me develop my leadership skills. It's a win-win situation. Good times.

And them I went to class. First one was at 8..and three consecutive ones after that that ends my morning around noon. Even though I was excited at such an ungodly hour in the morning I started to feel the sleep deprivation around 10 when my body started to shut down and it was hard to keep my eyes open. Good thing my afternoon class starts next week and I was able to come home and take a nap. Otherwise I don't know how I would've made it through. I went back to school at 5ish for my 5:30 class to find that the section was moved to Thursday instead and that my day could've ended at noon and I just wasted a trip to school. I hate that.

I can't wait until the semester is over. I  know..I say that every semester. What I really mean is I can't wait to graduate. But for now..one day at a time...somehow.

Appreciate

Funny how we take so many things for granted and when it's gone we miss it so much. I've learned to love my water heater. It's such a blessing to be able to turn on the tap and have hot water flow out. I took a bubble bath today in celebration.

On a side note...I started a Get-to-Hawaii-to-Visit-Joe-Fund. Anyone feel so compelled to contribute?

Winter Fun

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone. I'm so glad school is over..at least until the end of January. Even with missing a final I got decent grades this semester. At lot better than I thought I would get. Now it's time to relax. So a summary of the last couple of weeks.

East Coast:
I went on an 8 day tour of the east coast and Canada with my mom. She had won the package from her holiday party last year. Needless to say it was an Asian tour and I was a tourist in every sense of the word. Our tour guide even walked around with a blue umbralla. I just have to say I hate Asian people. I wanted to strangle some of them by the end of the first day. Other than that..it was pretty fun. Got to see a lot of places and I did a pretty good job of keeping myself entertained..as you'll see from the pictures. The weather was gorgeous though..very unusal for that time of the year. All 8 days were pretty consistently in the 50's. No rain, no snow, no clouds in the sky, just a lot of sunshine. It was amazing. The tourguide kept saying "In the winter this would be covered in snow" or "In the winter that lake would be frozen and people skate on it." As if it wasn't winter at the time. Good times.

Can you guess what the purple dress is made out of?

Christmas:
We got back the day before Christmas Eve and so I was thrown into a frenzy. Since Christmas Eve is on a Sunday this year there were two masses that day. The midnight mass was eventful...especially of the procession of baby Jesus. If you were there..you would know what I'm talking about. If not..I wish I had gotten it on tape so you can see. I'll just leave it at that..if you want to know you can ask.

Christmas day was spent opening presents cuz Mina came home and we actually got a tree this year so there were presents under the tree.

Nightmare Realized

Have you ever had your worst nightmare realized? Have you ever dreamt that you missed your final and woke and realized it was all a dream?

Well today that actually happened to me..except I didn't have the dream...I just missed my final. I walked into my dynamics final today at 2:45 early..it was the only final I had today..or I thought...and my friends from fluids asked me, "What happened to you this morning? Did you skip the final?" Me, confused, "What final? Fluids? That's tomorrow." "No..that was this morning at 9:45." "You're shitting me!" After a few other peopel around that also have fluids with us confirmed what they were saying was actually the truth, I start freaking out. My friend immediately walk me to our professor's office to talk to him except he was there. In the midst of all the freaking out somehow we find out that he's giving another final in the room next to us, at the same time as the dynamics final. We went over there and he wasn't there yet since it was still early. I decide I will just talk to him after the final. I went over there with my friends and stand outside cuz we can see from the window in the door that they were still taking the test. He must have seen us cuz he came walking out. I frantically explain to him what happened. He said in a calm voice, "So you were the one. Well, what do you want to do now?" Me, still freaking out, "Take it." "Right now?" "No not right now..I haven't studied for it yet." (Probably the wrong thing to say to the professor.) "You haven't studied yet? When did you plan to?" Needless to say I felt even stupider. After all the dust settled..I'm taking it Thursday morning at 10. He was really nice to let me take it..he could have just said too bad..it was your own damn fault. And it was. I don't know why I thought it was tomorrow..it's written in my planner all semester as tomorrow. Weird. But it actually works out better this way cuz I can study for tomorrow's thermo tonight and study for fluids on Wednesday. Could've just done without the stressing and freaking out though. And this way I can't go out with my friends on Wednesday..ok..I can..I just have to get up on Thursday and take another final.
